Zoning Regulations Reengineering

The D.C. Office of Zoning (OZ) and the Office of Planning (OP) have launched a multi-year Zoning Regulations Reengineering (ZRR) project to revise the Districts Zoning Regulations and develop a modern Technical and Legal Infrastructure to house the new Regulations. This effort is the first of its kind since the Zoning Regulations were revised in 1958. The project started in FY-2007 and OPs Zoning Regulations review is now underway as Zoning Commission Case No. 08-06. Visit OPs website for more information on their Zoning Review.

When completed, the ZRR will:

  • Include updated print and electronic versions of Title 11 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR).
  • Provide updated document design, graphics, tables and charts, links and cross references, indices, use matrix, and other modern features and enhancements.
  • Have updated Zoning Commission (ZC) and Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) administrative processes and procedures currently in chapters 1, 30, 31, and 32 of 11 DCMR.
  • In the electronic version of the new Zoning Regulations, provide links to the official Zoning Map of the District of Columbia housed in the Geographic Information System (GIS) at the Office of Zoning.
  • Produce a Zoning Handbook and other explanatory materials as guides to using the new Zoning Regulations.

As a result of work completed in the first phase of the ZRR, on October 2007, OZ released the first report which focused on discussions of the ZRR enhancements.

Now, OZ is pleased to announce the release of two new reports on Zoning Administrative processes and procedures that are part of chapters 1, 30, 31, and 32 of the current 11 DCMR. Click on the Links below to access the reports:

Please visit this page regularly for future postings as we continue to make progress in the ZRR.
